The Importance Of Interpersonal Communication For Having A...

I would like to share some communication concepts that I recently learned in a class I am taking. Interpersonal communication is needed when starting any new relationship. Communication becomes vital in continuing and maintaining these relationships.The concepts are based on the importance of interpersonal communication for having a healthy marriage. Our body language and spoken words often get read the wrong way which sometimes has a negative impact on our relationship. Many times you hear that marriage changes the relationship in part because communication and other attributes fall to the wayside, â€Å"about 40 to 50 percent of married couples in the United States divorce†. To avoid being misunderstood we say nothing to keep from losing control of our emotions. We suppress them and don’t communicate them in order to be liked b ut then we say what your partner wants to hear. In order for an interdependent relationship to flourish each person will need a strong personal foundation upon which to build the relationship. â€Å"Researchers believe that self -concept is a complex mix of how we see ourselves, what others have told us about ourselves, and what society says we should be† .Self-concept goes further into our psyche and brings up thoughts on what you can contribute to the relationship and how you want the other person to look at you. Keeping this in mind both of you need to remember that being married does not mean you have to fall into these antiquated roles. In the past children were raised to fill certain roles in society depending on their gender. As society has changed so has the personal concept of self. Men are home makers and women are leading corporations. â€Å"In 2010, the Federal Reserve Bank surveyed Americans and asked who controls more private wealth in this country, men or wome n. Seventy-six percent of Americans said men and were shocked to learn that, in fact, women were in the majority, at 51 percent, compared to men at 49 percent. It is predicted that this trend will continue, with estimates that the female majority will increase to 66 percent by
